Terms of Service

By creating an account or using Talk Mate, you agree to these terms.

1. Who runs Talk Mate

Talk Mate is operated by LocalIt Inc. (주식회사 로컬잇), business registration no. 584-88-03750, 2F, 507 Haean-ro, Donghae-si, Gangwon-do, Republic of Korea (CEO: Eunjin Cho). For questions, support and requests about your information, contact dev@localit.kr.

2. Eligibility and accurate information

Talk Mate is for people aged 14 or older who are authorized to join a supported university or program. Provide accurate information — your passport name, date of birth, university, Student ID and contact details — and correct it when it changes.

3. Your account

Use only your own account, protect your password and verification codes, and notify the program team if you suspect unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless applicable law provides otherwise.

4. Respectful and lawful use

Do not harass, discriminate, threaten, coerce, impersonate, scam, spam, share unlawful content, interfere with the service, or attempt unauthorized access. Respect other participants' privacy and intellectual-property rights.

5. Your content and moderation

You keep ownership of content you submit. You give Talk Mate the limited permission needed to host, process, display, and share it within the service and program. We may review reports and restrict or remove content or accounts that violate these terms, safety rules, or law.

6. Teams, matching and your QR code

Program organisers may form teams for you, including automatically at an event from the participants who check in, using your matching profile (languages, interests and balance answers). Your QR code identifies you for attendance and missions — don't share it or use someone else's. Teams may change when new participants join.

7. Program participation

Use in-app communication when possible so authorized program staff can support operations and reporting. Activities outside officially organized program sessions are voluntary and at your own risk. Talk Mate is not an emergency service.

8. Paid gatherings and refunds

Some gatherings and events charge a fee, paid by card through Stripe. Your seat is confirmed only after payment. The price, what the fee covers and the cancellation and refund rules are shown on each gathering before you pay, and those rules apply to that gathering. Refunds go back to the original payment method.

9. Advertising and event messages

With your consent, Talk Mate sends you advertising about gatherings, trips, events, programs, discounts and cashback offers run by Talk Mate or its partners (for example KOPLE). We send it by email, app push notification and in-app notice, in your app language, only between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Korea time. Every advertising email is marked “(광고)” and contains an unsubscribe link. This consent is optional: you can use every part of Talk Mate without it. You can withdraw it at any time in Settings → Notifications (“Promotional messages”), with the link in any advertising email, or by writing to dev@localit.kr, and we stop within 24 hours. If you joined one of our gatherings in the last six months, the law also lets us tell you about similar gatherings without separate consent; you can stop that in the same ways. Every two years we remind you that your consent is still active. Service messages — about your account, bookings, payments, gatherings you signed up for, safety and changes to these terms — are not advertising and are always sent.

10. Service availability and changes

Features may change, pause, or end as the program develops. We aim to keep the service available but cannot promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. Any mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

11. Suspension and ending use

Access may be limited or suspended for serious or repeated violations, security risks, or program ineligibility. You may stop using the service and request account deletion. Provisions that must reasonably continue after termination remain effective.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Disputes are settled by the competent court in Seoul, without limiting any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.
